All of a sudden my Citrix NetScaler Cluster disconnected my ssh or gui sessions sooner than I wished. I cannot recall which configuration change or upgrade caused this issue but I got disconnected after about five minutes idle time.

I read several articles and asked former colleagues and never succeeded but finally a hint by Marcus Jaeger from Citrix Systems sent me down the right path.

First you should check the current setting after you signed on via ssh.

show cli mode 300

show cli mode 300

As you can see in my example the specified timeout is exactly five minutes. Trying to alter this value might show you an error message like the following.

set cli mode -timeout 3600

set cli mode -timeout 3600

If this is the case you will have to check and probably change the global System Settings timeout value.

show system parameter

show system Parameter

set system parameter -timeout 3600

set system parameter -timeout 3600

Now it should be possible to Change the timeout.

set cli mode -timeout 3600

set cli mode -timeout 3600

Do not Forget to save your running configuration!

save ns config

save ns config

One Response to Settings to verify if your ssh or gui session to your Citrix NetScaler gets disconnected sooner than expected

  1. I don’t know who you wrote this for but you helped a brother out.
